This piece was inspired by atoms and molecules as well as movement. I imagined the character as being some sort of highly revered magical oracle or prophet who gets his face painted daily by maidens in the tribe (his face is actually quite plain and very normal without the painted skull mask which is on another Layer). Played around with colors once more as I got into the idea of using purple as a shadow color and liked how it turned out when paired with creamy ivory skin. With the color nodules on the head I mixed them with CMYK and RGB colors in mind. Hoping to one day animate a piece like this so my digital paintings can become moving and perhaps interactive pieces of motion graphic.
